Where does one find the amazing tiramisu from last night's party? That was almost certainly the best of its kind I've ever had in the States, possibly outside of Italy. For that matter, it gave some Italian tiramisu I've had a run for its money.

...I swear I talk about more than just food. Let's see. Basketball? I'm amused at the way the NBA finals are shaping up, but that's mostly because it's fun to watch the teams that were picked months ago to win the whole shebang crash and burn under the pressure.

Hmm, no takers? Literature, then. Hawthorne: Entirely overrated hack, or simply a product of his times?

I made them? Both of them really, because some people don't like/can't have alcohol and/or chocolate. But thank you! I'm glad you liked it.

And I like Hawthorne. Well I like the Scarlet Letter. The House of the Seven Gables was incredibly boring.

Those were made in house? What is it about that place that attracts such wonderful culinary talent?

(For the record, I don't trust anyone who doesn't like alcohol or chocolate.)

So do you prefer literature where the characters are doomed from the start?

Date: 2009-05-27 08:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-dryad.livejournal.com
Yeah. Cakes are so much better when they're homemade. Made with love and all of that. And I don't know about culinary talent, my cooking can't hold a candle to my Nonna's, but thank you.

(Well some people can't eat one or both of those items so it's not really their fault.)

No, not always. I mean I enjoy a good character struggle, but not always doomed. I mean it's not a classic classic, but more of a modern classic, but take The Giver. That book is filled with struggle but ultimately ends with hope.

She's a better cook than you? Is she single?

(Bah. Can't be trusted.)

Hmm. Never read it. Sounds good, though.

Well she and Nonno have been married forever, so the answer to that is no. Sorry.

And it's good. It's set in "the future" that seems utopian. There's no sickness, no suffering, no famine, no war, etc. Everyone is equal, there's no race problems or gender inequality really. But the further you get into the book you start to see how this perfect society really isn't. Like I don't want to give it all away. But it's pretty thought-provoking and interesting.

After last night, I don't think anyone's going to be talking about basketball unless it's refering to the slam dunk of Forge by Kyle.

Kyle is just jealous that he can't sink a three-pointer to save his life.

Yeah, but I can sink engineers all day long.

I can't believe I missed it. Please tell me the damage wasn't so bad that you people will never play again? I'm sick of Angelo's pathetic excuse for game.

(Why yes, Espinosa, I'm calling you out.)

Excuse me, who won the last three games?

Date: 2009-05-27 05:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-courier.livejournal.com
You were cheating and I was playing hurt. Or...distracted. Whatever.

Unless you want me to beat you with one hand behind my back?

Date: 2009-05-27 05:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-skin.livejournal.com
I don't think that'd help you. Maybe if I came in one-handed.

Date: 2009-05-27 05:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-diamondlil.livejournal.com
I'd gladly play again. Preferably not in a skirt next time, though.

Date: 2009-05-27 05:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-courier.livejournal.com
Ooh. And you're tall, too. You and me versus Angelo and whoever he thinks will help him salvage his reputation?

If it's Forge or Kyle we've got them beat.

I immensely dislike the majority of the man's work, but Young Goodman Brown keeps me from dismissing him as a hack.

Also, Lil is trying to kill me. I'm sure of it.

Lies.

If I wanted to kill you, you'd be dead already. Not my fault you're old and can't hold your liquor.

And here I thought you'd be more of a "Minister's Black Veil" type.

She is rather devious. I'd be careful--now that you've caught on, she's liable to take direct action. And I'm not sure your liver could take it.

From: [identity profile] x-diamondlil.livejournal.com
She's not really all that devious - devious implies subtle and God knows I'm not that.

And no, his liver couldn't. I didn't even hit him with half the shots I wanted to last night considering I still had my pants when things wrapped up.

Clearly, we'll have to try harder next time.

It was, at least from my perspective. And the birthday boy seemed to enjoy himself. But that might have just been the alcohol talking.

Prolly the alcohol. Sorry I didn't go, had things to do. Guess I should email him a belated or something.
